The Academy is committed to ensuring that our students achieve their full potential. Personalised learning lies at the heart of our curriculum at Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. In Years 7, 8 and 9, students follow a three-banded curriculum pathway where students are placed in teaching sets that match their specific aptitudes and abilities. Teaching sets are determined by Key Stage 2 test results, gifted/talented and S.E.N. registers, teacher assessments and knowledge of the students’ individual strengths.
Student progress is monitored on a termly basis and, where appropriate, we move students between bands ensuring they are challenged and that they reach their full potential. At Key Stage 4 we have a personalised four-pathway curriculum which has been designed to more appropriately match students’ abilities, aptitudes, aspirations, expectations and skills to courses. We offer a wide range of courses post-16 in the sixth form.
Work Related Learning
The Academy places great importance on helping students to make decisions regarding their future. The Academy has already established strong links with local industry and commerce and the curriculum reflects these links both in terms of content and approach. Each year, a number of business orientated projects take place in school time and students undertake a period of work experience towards the end of their compulsory education.
Homework and Home Study
Children get better results when parents get involved in their school work and help them to prepare for tests and exams. Helping your child with homework and coursework is essential. All students are expected to complete homework and coursework regularly and undertake some independent study. Students are issued with a homework timetable which is placed in their student planner. Each day, students write their homework into their planner. It is important to create the right environment for homework and coursework which is to be completed at home. This will help your child to manage their school work.
