We launched KS5 History in September 2009, and will be following the Edexcel specification. The topics for study will be as follows:

Unit 1 (AS) - Historical Themes in Breadth

A world divided: Communism and Democracy in the twentieth century.

  • Russia in Revolution 1881-1924:From autocracy to dictatorship
  • Stalin’s Russia- 1924-1953
Unit 2 (AS) - British Depth Study

British Political History in the 19thcentury.

  • Poverty, public health and the growth of government in Britain 1870-1875.
Unit 3 (A2) - Depth studies and Associated History controversies

The challenge of Fascism. From Kaiser to Fuhrer-Germany 1900-1945.

Unit 4 (A2) - Historical Enquiry

Crime and punishment in Britain c1830-1965.

This is a unit where a particular theme is chosen from 100 years in History. It is a taught coursework unit. 50 marks are allocated for this unit. The first part of the assignment, looks at significant short term effects of an event. The second part explores the process of change, over the 100 years chosen. This is 20% of the overall mark.
