The Science study area is a high profile and well resourced area of the school. The study area is suited on two floors and in the new Physics factory. There are nine laboratories and five preparation areas. Each laboratory is supplied with standard utilities as well as multimedia projectors and speakers. Four laboratories were recently refurbished and we are currently building two new laboratories including the new Physics factory.

Currently we offer a range of courses to suit students of different abilities and learning styles. At Key Stage 3 students in year 7 complete a bridging unit that links back to key stage 2 in a creative and imaginative way using real life scenarios to introduce new concepts. Students explore how to clear up a beach after a major chemical leak and look at aspects of forensic science with a unit called forensic entomology. Students in year 8 build upon these skills and study science with examples taken from real life. At the end of year 8 students in the Orange pathway will start preparing for the Triple science course with extension work.

Key Stage 4 Science

At Key Stage 4 we offer two very different pathways starting in year 9. Based on prior data and performance students will either study BTEC Double Award Science worth two GCSEs or GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
