Why choose Religious Studies?

The course encourages students to develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, a rigorous study of religion and its relation to the wider world. It treats the subject as an academic discipline by developing knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to a specialist study of religion. Students will be encouraged to adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of religion. Students will reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning.

How is Religious Studies taught?

Extensive use is made of religious and academic texts, DVDs and the internet. Students are encouraged to discuss and to take part in debates. There are opportunities to visit places of worship, to attend conferences and to invite into the Academy, visiting speakers. It is expected that students will work independently; that they will read religious and academic texts and that they will write essays.
