What is the course about?

The possibilities are now endless. If you think you have the motivation and ability to design and make the next iPod or Dyson Vacuum cleaner, then Product Design 3D is the right course for you. While working in both 2D and 3D, you will have the opportunity to use the latest computer packages while still developing your practical skills. You will develop an understanding of a broad range of materials, wood, metal, plastic and or pottery. With emphasis on the life cycle of products, manufacture and final disposal. You will develop knowledge of designers such as Philip Stark, Mondrian, Gaudi, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alessi and use their work to influence your own products. Product Design 3D also considers the broader issues for the designer, including the environmental sustainability of products and consumer safety.

How will I be assessed?

AS Unit 1: (PROD1: Exam) Materials, Components and Application.
AS Unit 2: (PROD2) Learning Through Designing and Making.
A2 Unit 3: (PROD3: Exam) Design and Manufacture.
A2 Unit 4: (PROD4) Design and Making Practice.
