A-level Business Studies offers you more than just an academic challenge. It is a unique experience that bridges the gap between education and commerce. Business Studies is a popular and successful subject at King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy.

You will develop a critical understanding of the following:

  • Internal functions of contemporary business organisations of all types
  • The dynamic, external environment within which businesses operate and the effects this can have upon decision making within a business
  • Major topical issues that can generate change for business organisations and the ways in which businesses respond to these issues
  • The range of stakeholder perspectives that can be taken on business activities

It encourages a range of important and transferable skills such as manipulating data in a variety of forms, interpreting results, presenting arguments and making judgments, making justified recommendations, problem solving, planning work demands and challenging your own assumptions based on evidence available. You will study in detail the major functions of a business and perhaps discover areas you would like to pursue at degree level and subsequent employment.

How will I be assessed?

The subject will be examined at both AS and A2 Level using a range of techniques. These will include short answer questions as well as extended responses to mini case studies. There will be unseen case study material requiring extended answers and also pre-release research tasks leading to an exam, accompanied by a choice of essay style questions
