A-level Health and Social Care is a vocational subject where you will study a variety of topics including health promotion, health care, disease, social issues, psychology and the physiology of the human body. These topics may be applied to a range of service user groups such as children, older people and individuals with specific needs.

Assessment

The course will be assessed through written examinations and coursework assignments. In Year 12 you will complete two pieces of coursework each worth 33%. There is a 1 hour 30 minute written paper also worth 33%. You will complete a similar amount of coursework in Year 13 as well as a written paper. To help develop the knowledge and skills that are essential in the Health and Social Care sector, this course will involve you carrying out independent research and working as a member of a group to solve problems as well as communicating orally and in writing, to present information and ideas. It will also include you organising work schedules and meeting set deadlines.

This qualification is designed to offer students a choice of routes into higher education, training and employment within the health and social care sector. It is an ideal route for students who wish to move onto a health and social care related career including nursing, midwifery, youth and community work and working with older people.
