The BTEC in Sport is an exciting and practical course. The course will enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding sport, fitness and coaching young people.

What will I study?

There are eight units to be studied, examples of which are:

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
The Physiology of Fitness
Sports Coaching
Sports Development
Practical Sports

There are also nine optional units. Examples from these are:

Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Sport Nutrition
Leadership in Sport
Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
Sports Injuries
Organising Sports Events

The course is taught in several ways and you will take part in many practical activities. You will have access to the many excellent sporting facilities where your lessons will take place. Some lessons will take place in the classroom. You will need to have a keen interest in sport but also be prepared to support your work with theory, producing written coursework when required.

Where can the course lead me?

The course will provide you with the necessary skills to consider higher education or to gain employment within the sport environment. Potential job applications are: Sports Coach, Sports Development Officer, Health and Fitness Instructor, Leisure Centre Assistant. There are many opportunities that a BTEC in Sport can lead you to.
