What is the course about?

If you study History you will explore different societies and events from history, such as the Russian Revolution of 1905, and compare fascist, democratic and communist societies, to decide which you think is most successful. You will analyse and evaluate evidence, to form conclusions about historical controversies such as whether ordinary German people during WW2 knew that the holocaust was taking place. You will extend your ideas and interpretations of historical events, such as the murder of the Russian royal family the Romanovs in 1918, and question Stalin really deserves the accolade of the repressive dictator in the twentieth century. Along the way, you should also develop an interest and enthusiasm for History, because the past shapes our future.

What do students say?

Throughout my school life History has always been my best subject, and my favourite. AS level is much more philosophical, and very enjoyable. I would have picked History for all three of my AS levels if I could.

AS level History has inspired me to consider my future, as it has unlocked several career opportunities that I will benefit from!
