Integrating Careers into the Curriculum
At King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy, careers education is a collective, whole-school responsibility. Academic subjects do not exist in a vacuum, and our goal is to ensure every student understands how the skills they learn in your classroom translate directly to the wider world of work.
Linking curriculum learning directly to career pathways is a key focus of Gatsby Benchmark 4. By contextualising your lessons, you help students find purpose in their learning, boost engagement, and create high-impact "stretch" opportunities across all key stages.

You do not need to build career-linked lessons from scratch. Use these high-quality, pre-made resources to effortlessly embed careers into your schemes of work:
My Learning My Future (Careers & Enterprise Company): A suite of ready-to-use PowerPoint slides and lesson plans tailored to individual subject areas (e.g., Science, Maths, English, Geography, and more). Supporting Form Tutors & Registration
Form Tutors are on the frontline of our careers delivery. During morning registration and dedicated tutor periods, you will lead students through vital careers tasks, including:
Guiding students through psychometric quizzes and career searches on Unifrog.
Facilitating discussions around key options stages (Year 9 GCSE options, Year 11 Post-16 choices, and Sixth Form Post-18 pathways).
Delivering structured tutorial activities designed to help students log their personal skills and build their portfolios.
Referrals: Who to Contact & How to Help
If a student expresses a strong career interest, is anxious about their upcoming options, or needs specialized 1-to-1 guidance, please use our internal referral routes:
Direct them to the Booking Form: Encourage the student to fill out the quick 1-to-1 appointment request form on the Student Portal. This automatically alerts our team and schedules a session into their Outlook calendar.
Contact the Careers Team: For specific curriculum ideas, feedback, or to flag a student who needs urgent transition support, reach out to us directly:
