On Monday 30th June, a group of KESH Year 12 students took part in a Politics day at King Edward’s School on Edgbaston Park Road as part of the MAT. The student’s collectively put together a robust manifesto and delivered it to a high profile audience against 11 other King Edward’s Schools. They did us proud against the other students, many who had a detailed knowledge through their study of A level Politics. KESH Sixth form had an excellent, well planned and delivered manifesto. The Mock Prime Minister Diyana and Armaan were particularly excellent due to their strong execution, leading us to be joint 5th place with King Edward’s Girls.

All students agreed they had an amazing day and fully enjoyed listening to Jess Philips our local MP and Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, answering some very difficult questions! Other notable guests included Nisha Pillai (BBC World News), Tandayi Bloom (Lecturer in Politics and International Studies, University of Birmingham), and Mark Webber (Professor of International Politics, University of Birmingham).

Since September 2021,12 students have been involved in a project run by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, called SoundLab Brum, which involved rehearsals at the Academy and at Symphony Hall every two weeks working with professional musicians and other students from schools across the city, creating their own compositions and covers of songs.

On Wednesday 29th June 2022, we took 9 students to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music to perform in The Bradshaw Hall in concert which was the final showcase event for the SoundLab Brum project. All the students did a fantastic job and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the concert and the project, making new musical friends across the city. Noah had the honour of being an ambassador for the project speaking to the various dignitaries and funding partners that were in attendance.

We had the pleasure of welcoming author Cat Weatherill to our Academy on Thursday 30 June 2022.

Cat delivered a storytelling session for all Year 7s students in an extended assembly and the workshops all ran smoothly. The students performed wonderfully with their metaphor writing. The workshops covered three themes; an introduction to autobiographical storytelling, cinematic writing and abstract writing.

Participation will have a positive impact on students’ confidence with reading and English skills. Special thanks to our staff for making it a great day too.

On Thursday 9th May 2022, a group of athletes from Year 7 & 8 participated in the annual KE Foundation athletics meeting at KES Birmingham. In true Sheldon spirit, we fought hard and competed in all events with some outstanding performances along the way.... The students were a credit to the Academy. The Year 7 team came 5th out of the 6 schools in attendance finishing ahead of KE Handsworth. Aiden - 1st place in Long Jump. Yusuf - 3rd place in 200m. The Year 8 team came 6th missing out by only a few points, deserving more for their efforts. Nathanael - 3rd place in 100m. Omar - 3rd place in Javelin. Thanks to KES for hosting a great event. @schoolsofkevi @KESBham

A group of year 7 students had the opportunity to participate in a table cricket event at Edgbaston Cricket ground. The students competed against four other schools across Birmingham and cricket was the winner. It was all about inclusion and participation, allowing every child, regardless of ability, to feel involved and have a great time.

Yesterday evening we hosted @HandsworthGS for a basketball game. In the last dance of this academic year they came out on top with a 23-20 victory! It was a great game played in good spirit. They did us all proud.

Today was a very special evening for our year 11 boys. Today was the last and final time our boys could wear the KESH jersey and represent this fantastic Academy in the finals.

We played Small Heath school who put up an fight. We had managed to take the lead as the constant pressure was too much for our opponents, Benji had managed to intercept a pass from the defender and calmly slot it past the keeper.

Last night the KESH Academy band performed in a concert at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as part of the Music Service's Gala concert series. They performed three pieces - Match Day, Hedwig's Theme and a Queen Medley. They did themselves and the Academy proud, putting on an excellent performance.
